Election Day is TUESDAY November 6th.  Be sure to Vote!
As you know, our local Sierra Club Central Piedmont Group supports public transit in Charlotte as the best environmental choice. Sierra members have joined with a long list of organizations, businesses, and individuals to back the Vote Against Repeal campaign. We have been busy distributing Vote Against Repeal yard signs, and doing some media interviews around the referendum issue.

In addition, Conservation Organizer, Chatham Olive was able to voice the environmental point of view on air pollution and bad air alert days in Charlotte and the necessity to keep the ½ cent transit tax in a video interview done on behalf of the Vote Against Repeal campaign. To view this video and the current TV ads click here.

Want to help the Vote Against Repeal campaign? Here are two things you can do:

1. Contact Chatham to sign up to help make calls to our members reminding them to Vote Against Repeal. This phone bank will take place at the Sierra office at 402 W. Trade St. on Monday November 5th. Pizza and drinks provided. Join us to help get out the vote to Vote Against Repeal.

GOTV Phone Bank Nov. 5th at 6:00 PM. To sign up, email chatham.olive@sierraclub.org

2. Add your name to the hundreds of others who are working to maintain transportation choice for Charlotte. No donation too small. Help support the vote against repeal campaign by making any level of donation here.

Action Alert -- Very Important

Charlotte City Council meets this coming Monday night, May 14th at 6:00 PM and will be taking up the US Mayors Climate Protection Agreement or some form thereof.

As you know this has been our Major Campaign for more than a year in Charlotte. If we are ever going to be a Sierra Club "Cool City," Council needs to add Charlotte's name to the nearly 500 other cities that have endorsed the US Mayor's Agreement.

Some Council Members are still on the fence. They need to see people in the seats Monday night.

Please plan to attend the meeting:
Government Center, 600 E. Fourth St. -- Starts at 6:00PM

And before Monday's meeting, be sure to let Council Members know this is a critical issue.

Call the members, speak to them in person or leave a strong message in support of the US Mayors Climate Protection Agreement.

Here's the link for contacting Council Members

We encourage all North Carolina Sierra Club members to be civically engaged and vote. You can learn more about our local group's political activities by contacting the chair of our political committee on the Contacts page.

Our local group issues endorsements for local candidates, and works with the State and National Sierra Club Political Committees to make endorsements at the statewide and federal levels.

Local groups learn about candidates' environmental records in municipal, county and state legislative races through questionnaires, interviews, candidate forums and past records. The local groups vote on endorsements and the Chapter Political Committee either approves or disproves endorsements.
