Charlotte
Clean and Green
- A Landmark
Event
On April 18, 19
and 21, our
local Sierra
Club
co-sponsored the
Charlotte
region's
inaugural green
educational
festival,
Charlotte Clean
and Green with
our partners
Central Piedmont
Community
College and US
Green Building
Council,
Charlotte
Chapter. From
1500 - 1700
people attended
Clean and Green
activities,
including green
building classes
organized by
USGBC Charlotte,
exhibits of
green
technologies,
green-your-home
classes, and a
showing of the
award winning
film, Kilowatt
Ours. Of the
more than 30
classes offered,
virtually all
were filled to
capacity.
Saturday saw the
main quad at
CPCC filled with
54 exhibitor
tents featuring
solar energy
systems, hybrid
cars, Food
Lion's massive
tractor with
it's energy
efficiency
upgrades,
electric and
propane powered
lawn mowers,
green roofs,
recycling, earth
friendly
insulation and
building
products, and
non-toxic
cleaning agents.
The BBQ lunch
featured pork
raised at
Grateful Growers
farm. Bluegrass
and blues kept
the kids dancing
and a featured
presentation by
TV's Simple
Living creators
Wanda Urbanska
and Frank
Levering rounded
out the day.
Check out the
Charlotte Clean
and Green slide
show in our
